^ is a collection of graphic effects and fades, various
ways to put a picture into a window or fade a picture out of
a window.  This version has a total of 67 effects and 60 fades.
(Some effects can not be transformed into fades for technical
reasons; others, like the Caste wipe series, just look really
boring as fades to a solid pattern.)

Many of these were originally programmed on an Apple //e in
the mid 1980’s and ported to the Macintosh almost ten years
later.  (What a long, strange trip it’s been...)  The architecture
of the Macintosh makes a lot more effects possible, but it also
makes some quite impossible.  (The Apple //e high-resolution
screen was always 280 x 192 pixels, and every picture took
exactly 8K.  Several of my old effects relied on the peculiar
memory layout of the Apple //e, which can’t be duplicated
even on a Macintosh 100 times as powerful.)
